Modern minimal Japanese plywood kitchen with white worktop and wall tiles

PARIS MINIMAL

Apartment, Paris

A city retreat inspired by Japanese simplicity and minimalism.

A cobbled back street in the heart of the bustling 11th arrondissement of Paris.
Old oak doors lead up a winding wooden staircase to a dark, dusty apartment, uninhabited for nine years.
Studio Hazeldean transformed this into a calm oasis in the heart of the bustling city.

the design

The design was based on Shibui - subtle understated beauty, and Kanso - simplicity.

We used a restrained palette of materials to unify the space and create flow through the apartment.

Our custom designed plywood kitchen embodies Japanese simplicity and minimalism. Storage was maximised through intelligent space planning. Each appliance seamlessly integrated.

We sourced classic design pieces in greys and blacks to contrast with the warm plywood. The hand-built bookcases maximise storage in an awkward corner. Woven wool rugs add texture.

In the bedroom a partition creates a concealed walk-in wardrobe. Blown glass pendants hover beside the bed for delicate contrast.

The bathroom was completely reconfigured. By moving the doorway, an alcove was created for the wash basin. Subtle circular elements contrast with the grid of tiles. A mirrored wall creates a feeling of space.
